DWG files
DWG is a closed format. In AutoCAD, DraftSight, BricsCAD or the free ODA File Converter use Save As › DXF, then convert the DXF here.
About the formats
- DXF is the Drawing Exchange Format created by Autodesk. Every CAD, CNC, laser-cutting and plotting program can read it.
- PDF is the universal document format: it looks the same on every device and printer.
Viewing and printing CAD drawings
- Lines, arcs, circles, polylines, text and layers from AutoCAD, LibreCAD, QCAD and laser-cutting software are drawn as sharp vector lines.
- Choose “fit to page” for a quick overview or a scale for printing to measure.
- Black lines on white is best for printing; keep layer colours for checking drawings on screen.
Good to know
Binary DWG files are not supported – save as DXF in your CAD program first. To make DXF from an SVG drawing, use SVG to DXF.
