Where you need CSV
Shopify and WooCommerce product imports, Google Contacts, email-marketing lists, bank uploads and databases all ask for CSV. Keep the UTF-8 mark switched on when the file contains Urdu, Arabic or accents.
About the formats
- XLSX is the Excel workbook format used by Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc and Numbers.
- CSV is a plain-text table where values are separated by commas (or semicolons or tabs). Banks, online shops, CRMs and databases export data as CSV.
When do you need CSV?
- Importing contacts into Gmail or Outlook, products into Shopify or WooCommerce, or data into a database.
- Sharing data with programs that cannot read Excel files.
Tips
- Each sheet can be saved as its own CSV file.
- Choose UTF-8 so Urdu, Arabic and special letters stay correct.
- Formulas are saved as their results; formatting such as colours is not part of CSV.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Yes – free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
Are formulas kept?
CSV only stores values, so the result of each formula is saved.
Can I convert old .xls files?
Save them as .xlsx in Excel or Google Sheets first.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is opened and converted inside your browser on your own phone or computer and is never sent to our server.
