How to use eBook Maker (KDP)
- Paste your manuscript or open a Word, PDF or text file. Add the title, author and optional dedication and “About the author”.
- Check the chapters, choose pictures (your own with ready prompts, or none) and pick one of 56 styles – the live preview shows your first chapter.
- Choose paperback, hardcover or Kindle and the trim size, look at the KDP check, then download the print PDF, the EPUB or the Word file.
What you get
- Kindle eBook (EPUB 3) – reflowable text, a clickable table of contents, cover and pictures. Amazon KDP accepts EPUB files directly.
- Paperback and hardcover interior PDF – real book typesetting: fonts embedded, justified text, drop caps, decorated chapter openings, scene-break ornaments, running heads, page numbers, a contents page with page numbers, and front and back matter (title page, copyright page, dedication, acknowledgements, about the author).
- Word file (.docx) – the same book with the page size, mirrored margins and headings set, for last changes in Word.
KDP margins and trim sizes
The inside margin (gutter) is set from the page count using Amazon KDP’s table – 0.375″ up to 150 pages, then 0.5″, 0.625″, 0.75″ and 0.875″ for thicker books – and the book is laid out again if the page count crosses a step. All KDP trim sizes are included, from 5 × 8″ to 8.5 × 11″, plus square and landscape children’s sizes, with or without bleed. The KDP check shows the page count, the spine width for your paper and warnings: fewer than 24 pages, too many pages for a hardcover, pictures below 300 DPI, or a coloured background that needs premium colour printing.
56 styles and 12 chapter designs
Every style mixes a page layout, a body font (EB Garamond, Crimson Pro, Libre Baskerville, Lora, Merriweather, Source Sans or Andika for children), a title font from 32 display fonts, an accent colour, a page background and an ornament. Chapter openings come in 12 designs – centred with ornament, between two lines, framed box, coloured band, big faint number, big number on the left, left or right aligned, side bar, short underline, low literary opening, and picture on top. All fonts are open-source and allowed in commercial books.
Picture prompts for your own pictures
Choose “My own pictures” and pick where pictures go – at the start of every chapter, every few paragraphs, or exactly where you wrote [image: what the picture shows]. Write your characters once; every prompt repeats them word for word, adds the scene, a camera angle, where the characters stand, your picture style and the shape, and asks the picture app to keep the characters the same. Press 📋 Prompt, make the picture in Gemini, ChatGPT, Bing Image Creator or any app, then press ⬆ Upload. ✨ Write picture scenes with AI lets Google Gemini read the chapters and write the scenes for you (free daily allowance, or no limit with your own free Gemini key). A place without a picture is simply left out – the book never has an empty space.
Urdu and Arabic books
Urdu books are set in Nastaliq and Arabic books in Naskh, with correctly joined letters, right-to-left lines, Urdu or Arabic chapter labels, page numbers, contents and copyright page – as a print PDF for KDP, an EPUB and a Word file.
