How to use PDF Translator
- Press Select file and choose your PDF – or paste text into the box.
- Choose the language it is in (or “Detect language”) and the language you want.
- Press Translate, check the preview and download your translated PDF.
Three ways to get your translated PDF
- PDF – same layout: every page is rebuilt with the translated words where the original words were, on the same background, with the same pictures. Perfect for reading a foreign document side by side.
- Word (DOCX): an editable document with headings and paragraphs – best when you want to correct or reuse the translation.
- Text (TXT): just the translated words, page by page.
Scanned PDFs are photos of paper and contain no real text. Run them through the free OCR PDF tool first, then translate the result.
Tips for the best translation
- Clear, complete sentences translate best. Very short labels can be translated in more than one way.
- Names, numbers, e-mail addresses and links are left as they are.
- For right-to-left languages such as Urdu and Arabic the text direction is set automatically.
- Always let a fluent speaker read important documents before you send or publish them.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Yes – free, with no sign-up and no watermark. A fair daily limit applies on phones and non-Chrome browsers; in Google Chrome on a computer you can translate as much as you like.
Which languages are supported?
More than 100 languages, including English, Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Choose “Detect language” and the original language is found for you.
Will the layout stay the same?
Yes, with “PDF – same layout” each paragraph is placed where the original was, in a similar size and colour. A translation can be longer or shorter than the original, so the text size is adjusted to fit the space.
Can I edit the translated PDF?
The same-layout PDF is made for reading and printing. Choose “Word (DOCX)” if you want to edit the translation.
How good is the translation?
It is machine translation – great for understanding a document, sharing a draft or preparing a first version. For contracts, medical papers or a book you will publish, have a fluent speaker check the result before you use it.
Is my document uploaded?
Your file itself is opened and rebuilt on your own device. In Google Chrome on a computer the translation also happens on your device. On other browsers and phones only the words that need translating are sent securely to our translation service and are not kept with your name or file; the finished file is made on your device.
