What the EPS contains
Each page is stored as a high-resolution picture inside a standard EPS with the real page size, which is what most print workflows expect. To keep vector shapes, place the PDF itself in Illustrator or InDesign.
About the formats
- PDF is the universal document format: it looks the same on every device and printer.
- EPS is Encapsulated PostScript, a print format understood by Illustrator, InDesign, CorelDRAW, QuarkXPress and professional printing workflows.
Who needs EPS?
Print shops, sign makers and older layout programs such as QuarkXPress and CorelDRAW often ask for EPS. Each PDF page becomes one EPS file that can be placed in a print layout.
Tips
- Choose 300 DPI or more for print.
- For modern tools (Illustrator, InDesign, Affinity) the PDF itself is usually the better choice.
