How to use Edit PDF Metadata

  1. Press Select PDF file.
  2. Change the details you want (empty a box to remove it).
  3. Press Save PDF and download.

Why edit PDF metadata?

Browsers and search engines often show the PDF title instead of the file name. A file made from a template may still say “Document1” or carry an old author name. Fix it here before you publish or send the file.

To wipe all hidden details instead, use Remove PDF Metadata.

Why edit metadata?

Good to know

Metadata does not change what is printed on the pages. To remove all hidden information before sharing a file, use Remove PDF Metadata.

Frequently asked questions

What is PDF metadata?
Hidden details stored inside the file: title, author, subject, keywords and the program that created it. They appear in the browser tab, in file properties and sometimes in search results.
Why change it?
To show a proper title instead of “Microsoft Word – Document1”, to put your own name as author, or to add keywords that help people find the document.
Is it free?
Yes, free with no limits.
What is XMP metadata?
A second, hidden copy of the details used by some programs. Removing the old copy makes sure your new details are the ones shown everywhere.
Does editing metadata change the pages?
No. Only the hidden details change; every page stays exactly the same.
Is my file uploaded?
No. It is edited in your browser.
